Glycerites - tinctures made with vegetable glycerin (no alcohol)

Glycerites are a great alternative for those who are looking to avoid alcohol. A glycerite is an herbal extract made with vegetable glycerine which is food grade ingredient and safe for consumption. While these remedies are best used within six months, their shelf life can extend up to 1-2 years if stored properly in a cool, dry area.

Lemon Balm
Ingredients: fresh lemon balm (Melissa Officianalis) harvested from my garden and tinctured in vegetable glycerin

Lemon balm is a delicious, relaxing nervine. It is often used for many hypersensitive nervous system issues, including stress, insomnia and nervous tension. It is also used for digestive bloating as a carminative member of the mint family. Lemon balm has antiviral properties as well contained in its volatile oils. Other properties worth mentioning are its diaphoretic and anti spasmodic actions, which can be helpful when the body is stressed to there is a lot of nervous tension. The sour pleasant taste is balanced by the sweetness of the vegetable glycerin and can be used by adults and children alike.

Special considerations: Lemon Balm is generally considered a gentle and safe herb for common consumption.

Rose
Ingredients: fresh rose (rosa rugosa) blossoms harvested from my garden and tinctured in vegetable glycerin

Rose is ruled by the planet Venus. Rose has long been used for matters of the heart, both as a circulatory
tonic but also a relaxing nervine. In TCM (traditional chinese medicine), rose is considered a “Shen” tonic - an herb that has a direct affect on the spiritual heart and nervous system.
Rose is a cooling, soothing plant great for soothing excess heat patterns of inflammation and hypersensitivity.
It also has tonifying/astringent properties which can be beneficial to address organ systems that have inflammation due to lax tissues creating a damp stagnant environment. Rose has an affinity for the circulatory, female reproductive and nervous systems in particular. The aromatic oils of the plant notably speak to address emotional issues of trauma, grief and depression. When difficult emotions become suppressed, they can often manifest in our bodies as physical symptoms. Rose can gently guide us to open our hearts and allow for vulnerability while maintaining crucial boundaries (I like to think of the thorns as being guardians).

Special considerations: using this tincture during kidney disease, breastfeeding & pregnancy. Otherwise, no real contraindications or side effects if used properly.

Chocolate Mint
Ingredients: fresh chocolate mint (hybrid mentha x piperita) harvested from my garden and tinctured in vegetable glycerin

Chocolate mint is part of the Lamiaceae or mint family. Most commonly known for its ability to soothe the digestive system including nausea/motion sickness, vomiting, gas, cramping, and diarrhea. The volatile oils are antimicrobial and can help freshen your breath. It can also help soothe inflammation by providing a cooling sensation. The taste is quite pleasant, reminding me of girl scout thin mint cookies or Andies candies, though perhaps more on the minty side and less on the chocolatey side.

Special considerations: Most mints are generally considered gentle and safe for common consumption. They are best avoided during colder months as they tend to cool the body. Pregnant or nursing women should only use mint in small doses.
