Assorted Herbal Tinctures - extracts made with Garden fresh organic herbs

Tinctures - alcohol based herbal extracts - small batches

Most of these extracts use 80 proof vodka (40% alcohol) and not necessarily gluten free. Please take note if you are especially sensitive to any type of grain alcohol. If you require an alcohol free remedy, please contact me and I can create something custom for you as long as I have access to the herbs you require. I hope to eventually be able to offer gluten free tinctures.

Oregano tinture

Ingredients: fresh oregano (Origanum Vulgare) harvested from my garden and tinctured in 80 proof vodka (40% alcohol)*

Oregano is a warming, diffusive plant with lots of aromatic volatile oils which serve to aid us as an antimicrobial, carminative, stimulating and anti-viral remedy. Because of its warming energetic nature, it is mainly used to warm up cold and damp conditions, including respiratory, digestive and even as an emmenagogue to help break up stagnant fluids. As a tincture, it is often used as a diaphoretic during cold and flu conditions to warm up the body.

Special considerations: Using oregano in large amounts, or as an essential oil, is generally contraindicated in pregnancy because of its emmenagogue effects.

Feverfew tincture

Ingredients: fresh feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) flowers and leaves (aerial portions) harvested from my garden and tinctured in 80 proof vodka (40% alcohol)*

Feverfew is a is a beautiful plant with small daisy-like flowers - related to chamomile. Historically, feverfew has been most commonly used for migraine headaches, including nausea. It relieves headaches by easing smooth muscle spasms and the constriction of blood vessels in the brain. Due to its anti-inflammatory constituents and antipyretic qualities, feverfew can also be used as a febrifuge (treat fevers) and to help ease menstrual cramps.

Special considerations: Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Feverfew should not be used in children younger than 2 years. Do not take if you are using blood thinners such as aspirin or Warfarin.

Purple Dead Nettle tincture

Ingredients: fresh purple dead nettle (Lamium purpureum) harvested from my property in the spring time (pesticide free) and tinctured in 80 proof vodka (40% alcohol)*

Purple dead nettle is a nutritious weed that grows everywhere during the springtime. It has similar properties to stinging nettle in that it is nutritive, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. The tincture can be used similarly to that of stinging nettle: to treat histamine levels (allergic inflammation) during allergy season, to alleviate excess fluids in the body (edema and damp stagnation). Did you know that this weed can also be foraged and used in salads? It’s really quite wonderful.

Tulsi tincture

Ingredients: fresh tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) harvested from my garden and tinctured in 80 proof vodka (40% alcohol)*

Tulsi is considered to be a sacred plant in Ayurveda. While tulsi is in the basil family, it has a different flavor to it. While some traditions use the plant for ceremonial practices and not consumption, this plant is very commonly used medicinally in Ayurvada. It is an adaptogenic herb, which means that it helps the body to cope with stress and anxiety. It has a calming effect and can also be helpful during meditation. If you are familiar with Ayurveda, this plant is suitable for all doshas but particularly kapha and vata as it can be warming. Tulsi helps ease tension, quiet the mind, improve circulation and digestion.

Corn Silk tincture

Ingredients: fresh organic corn silk (Stigma maydis) from local farmstand and tinctured in 80 proof vodka (40% alcohol)*

Corn silk is a soothing remedy for kidney and urinary tract health. It has protective, anti-inflammatory properties and acts as a diuretic (increases the output of urine) without aggravating irritated tissues. High in antioxidants and vitamins.
Also helpful in lowering blood sugar.
